After having worked as a physiotherapist in the AMC hospital and as a PhD student at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, now working as scientific researcher and lecturer in computer programming (MATLAB).
The central theme of his studies is: 'Rehabilitation in a Virtual Reality Environment for real! Bringing new fundamental insights gained from VR experiments to Rehabilitation practice.'
The main question in these studies is: 'How can we improve human performance in daily living by using a research and rehabilitation environment that can be manipulated with advanced VR techniques?'
The theoretical framework for these studies is based on a combination of Discovery Learning, Embodied Cognition, the Mirror Neuron system, and Internal and External Focus.
The main idea is that subjects (re-)learn to interact with their environment by exploring and manipulating objects, limited or facilitated by the characteristics of their own body, based on manipulated information.
